BOWLING.
Two rinks from the local club A'isited Palmerston yesterday, and played the holders of the Ainslie Shield. The conditions of this competition provide for two rinks, the result being decided on the aggregate score. One Foxton rink notched a win and the other was defeated, the holders retaining possession with an aggregate score of 41 against their opponents’ 3G. Rimmer’s rink defeated J. A. Nash’s team by two points after a very interesting game throughout. Foxton scored eight on the first four heads, and after the sixth head the score stood 10 —2. On the next three heads the holders scored seven: 10 —I). The scores continued fairly even for the next few- heads, and stood 14 —12 in favour of Foxton after the fourteenth. Palmerston then got in a live, but the score aauis again evened up, and was 1!) all Avhen the last bead was being played. On this the visitors scored two. The other game, N. 11. Nash v. F. Wbibley, was also fairly even for the most part. Palmerston started off well, and bad a lead of eight after six heads. The visitors, however, pulled up on their opponents, and the scoring was then very close. After the seventeenth bend had been played the board read 14 all, but on the next head the home team put on a five, and eventually won by seven points.
