Air W. 11. Field, M.P., has receives! the following further communication from the Alinisler of Agriculture in respect to the Jlax grub which is threatening (he destruction of a. large area of Jlax in this district
“Further to my letter of 5Hi instant in reply to .yours of 2nd idem regarding a grub that is a 1 tacking the roots of Phormiuiu plants, J have the honour to inform you that this insect is al present being investigated Doth by the Department’s Biologist and by Air 1). Miller, the olficer ,-peeially delegated for research in connection with phormium pests. Mr Miller is carrying out special work in the Auckland disIriel, where the yellow leaf disease, which is apparently caused by the grub, is prevalent. When any more definite information is available i shall be pleased to communicate with you further.”
