GARDEN' FETE AT SHANNON. Thu ladies of I lie Shannon Methodist Ouild organised a snecessi'ul garden tele in aid oil the Circuit i'und on < Wednesday afternoon, which was a huge (inane,iai success. The affair was attended by over three hundred people. Mrs Carter, the president of the Cnild and the organiser, showed considerable ablily and skill in the arrangements, and to her untiring energy and tael is due much of the success. The following were the stall-holders: — Plain and fancy goods, Mesdames Barber and Murdoch; fruit and sweets, Mrs (libsoii, assisted by -Miss Quarrie (there was some extraenergy in this stall); bi;an tub, Mrs .Doidge and Mrs McLaughlin; tea and refreshments, Mesdames Kew, Byers, Quarre, Kauvell, Howe and Misses Bowker and Swindlehursl; mysterious parcels, Mesdames (Airier and Aldersey. -Mrs Cray supervised the doll competition, Mr Murdock the lamb guessing, Mr McLoughlin the cake guessing, and W. Quarry the ladies' nail driving competition. -Mr Byers officiated as gate-keeper, while Misses Hook, (Swindlehursl and Bowker carried out the duties of waitresses. Mr Broadbell kindly erected the stalls, realise £4l for the funds.
Guessing competitions: Laml) (gift of .Mr Carter), Mrs Curry (Levin) I, \V. Murdoch (Shannon) 2. The weight of the Jamb was 77 lb., tlie winner’s gues* was 7(i-l lb., and the next was 78 lb. (2) Doll (gill of Mrs .Murdoch), no one guessed the name, “Winifred." Therefore “Winifred’’ was put up for sale, and realised (is. (IQ Cake (gift of .Airs Hicks, of Tedding) : .Mrs Bisson (Tedding) 1. Games. —(1) Quoits, ladies: Airs Spring 1. Quoits, boys, was won by a lad of the W’eraroa Band. Taildriving: Alis Quarrie 1. Two boys from the Weraroa Baud won the Treasure Hunt.
The Kev. Bowe opened the proceedings, and called for cheers for the president of the Guild and her willing helpers. The cheers were heartily given. Cheers were also given for the Boys’ W’eraroa Training Tarm Bund. During the day the fads rendered some line music which was much appreciated.
It is estimated that the effort will realise £4O for the funds.
