HAWKE’S BAY SEAT.
For some days past the Hon. IV. D. S. .MacDonald has been in Hawke’s Bay in connection with the Parliamentary by-election to be held there as the result of the death of the Hon. Dr. R. McNab. Asked by a Wellington Post reporter as to the developments, he replied that the Reform Party seemed to be adhering to its announcement that in view of the exceptional circumstances it would not put forward a candidate. A conference will be held on Monday night, at which the Minister will preside. At that meeting the final selection of a candidate for the Liberal Party would be made. It is believed that Sir John Findlay will be the Party candidate. The date of the by-election will be early in March. It is not anticipated that an election will be held.
