MAN REFUSES TO TAKE THE. OATH.
Some excitement in connection with the hearing of the military appeals occurred in Palmerston North on Monday daring the hearing of the ease of the brothers Ivearin, of Longlmrn. The hoard found them in a hostile spirit. None of the three brothers had taken the oath, and when -histin Kearin appeared to corroborate the evidence of bis brother Maurice, the chairman asked him whv lie had not taken the oath.
“Quite a lot of other men have got past without taking it,'’ was the replv.
“Well, why didn’t you take it<” asked the chairman.
“I didn't choose to,'’ replied the appellant. Tins was met by expressions of annoyance by the board. After a smart exchange of repartee between the Bench and Kenrin. the appellant was ordered out of the box. Later, he was asked to lake the oath of allegiance, and on his refusing, Major McDonald ordered him to the cells. He was, however, spared that indignity, and was brought back to take the oath, iieing later warned by the chairman that if he did not behave himself he would be charged with eomtempt of Court.
