TWO MESCFE ATTEMPTS FAIL,

Greymouth, Jan. 23

Late this afternoon Thomas Haslie, aged forty-one, a miner, of Mewanui, was silling on the Greymouth wharf, apparently asleep, and fell into the river. A man named Mundy, though fully dressed, endeavoured to effect a rescue, and later E. Mubin made a similar attempt, but both were unsuccessful. After two hours’ dragging the body of the man was recovered, but life was extinct. Deceased was single, and had no relations, so far as is known here.
