TOWN CLERKS REPORT.

The Town Clerk reported at last night’s meeting as follows; — “I beg to report that the road staff has been engaged on the following works during' the past month, viz: Tarring Main Street, filling holes and repairing Lady’s Mile, Park, Avenue and Russell Streets and* Moutoa Road, cutting grass in the cemetery, and ordinary maintenance work. It is proposed to proceed with the tarring of the Main Street, and ordinary maintenance work during the, present month.

Victoria Park. —On New Year’s Day a fire started in the long grass in Victoria Park, thereby causing considerable damage to trees and, fences. Owing to the absence of an adequate supply of water it was impossible to propex’ly subdue the fire for some days. It would be advisable to always have the grass cut in this reserve in November in each year to avoid the possibility of a recurrence of this trouble.
