ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Christchurch, Jan. 11. Elizabeth Ryder, a widow, aged fifty-eight, committed suicide at Lyttelton to-day by cutting her throat. She had been worrying ahout her two sons, who are serving with the forces at the front. Wanganui, Jan. 11. Despite inquiries by the police, the identity of the man who was killed at Aramoho yesterday by failing under a train has not been established. As a result of communication with the police at Inglewood, from which place deceased evident - • ly obtained a railway ticket found in his pocket, it is surmised the victim was William Urry, who resided in that district. A brother is on the way to Wanganui to assist in the identification. Auckland, Jan. 11. A returned soldier named I'te. Ronald Henry Mayne died in the Hospital to-day. Mayne was shot through I lie Jungs on Gidlipoli, and was invalided to England, and returned to the Dominion in September. He was afterwards discharged. Deceased was a native of the United Stales, and married an English girl while at Broekenhurst. His wife is still in England. Masterton, Jan. 11. F. Jackson, a private telegraph linesman, was killed this morning in a motor ear accident on Waraiti Hill, near Masterton. Auckland, Jan. 11. At the inquest on Frederick Carroll, aged 05, who was found drowned in the harbour, a verdict was returned that Carroll committed suicide while Ids mind was affected by illness and suffering. The evidence showed that deceased had lived on his private means without working. Latterly he had been short of money.
