MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
QUARTERLY RETURNS,
The Clerk of the Court (Mr F. Woods) has supplied us with the following particulars of the business transacted at the local Court during the quarter ended December 31st, 1910; — civic. Three sittings were presided over by the Magistimte, and four by Justices. Twenty civil cases were dealt with, the amount sued for being £3OB Is sd, and the amount recovered £173 4s Od. Twenty-three plaints were entered, 0 judgment summonses issued, and 3 orders made. Forty-four civil processes were served and three warrants executed. The civil fees amounted to £l4 Bs. Od. CRIMINAL. Fourteen persons were summoned or apprehended, six were fined, 3 orders made, and 5 charges were withdrawn. The fines totalled £0 5s Od. ... ( PENSIONS. Two widows’ pensions were granted. ANNUAL CRIMINAL RETURNS. During the year ended December 31st, 1910, the following criminal cases were dealt with at the local Court: —28 cases under the Licensing Act, 20 fines being inflicted and 8 orders made; 11 breaches of the peace, 10 being fined and one case .Withdrawn; breaches of borough bylaws, 8 fined; theft, 3 eases, 2 imprisoned and one ease dismissed i one charge of alleged breach of Shop and Offices Act dismissed; assault, one fined; wilful damage, one convicted; Military Act, one convicted; arson, 2 arrests, one dismissed, one sentenced; furious driving, one convicted; grossly indecent act, one convicted; Dog Registration Aid, 5 cases, all withdrawn; drunk whilst in charge of horse and trap, 2 lined.
