“OUR PICTURES.”
“THE WAIF,” TO-NIGHT
The liiiTcnt programme at the Town Hall, as shown last night, is an excellent one in every respect. The star item, “The Waif,” f'ealuring- the wonderful hoy actor, Matty Rouberl, is a feature of great interest, and illustrates wonderful talent on the part of the hoy. The story is of the New York slums—life from the viewpoint of a friendless kiddie of nine, whose home is an empty barrel, whose food is what he can gel. He is rescued from the streets by an old actor, who teaches the child his art. In the end the lad becomes a famous star. Young Roubert impersonates Fagin (“Oliver Twist”), Sherlock Holmes, and Sarah .Bernhardt with astonishing cll’ecl. An ollicial war picture of unusual interest reproduces “The Fight at St. Floi,” and in addition (here is I he latest Gaumont; Graphic and a comic cartoon Him, “Charlie Chaplin Round the World in Eighty Minutes.” This programme will be repealed to-night, and can he recommended as being of a very entertaining character.
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. Tim programme at the Town Hall pictures on Friday and Saturday evenings will contain the second instalment of the interesting “Slingarce' series, entitled "A \'uice in the \\ dderness." Like a Hash out, oL‘ his old life in Fngiaad, Slingaree, riding close |i> |he settlement, hears the voice of Fthel, his former sweetheart. The two meet face to face, and the bushranger learns (hat Kliiel, forced by family misfortune to earn her own livelihood, has come to Australia to become a companion to Mrs Clarkson. Slingaree is informed that there is to be a concert at which Mrs Clarkson will sing. That night, while Mrs Clarkson is singing, holding Urn people at pistol’s point, Slingaree compels Fdhel, seated next to Mrs Clarkson, to mount the platform and sing. Sir Julian Crum, a famous musician touring Australia, 'accompanied the girl on the piano. The song ended. Slingaree and Howie (lee. Clarkson follows Slingaree, and attempts to shoot the bushranger, only to find his weapon unloaded. Later Fdhel, whose voice has made a tremendous impression, confesses to having extracted the cartridges from the weapon. Sir Julian engages the girl to accompany him on his tour. Hack in his hidden retreat Stingaree’s thoughts go back to Fngland and the happiness he had once known. The supporting itmes are of the usual high standard.
