THE HOLIDAYS.
The weather for the Christinas holiday's was decidedly sultry', and those who exposed themselves in the sun for any. length of time were well marked. At times the heat was sliding, hut yesterday the atmosphere was cooler.
Crowds of visitors were at the seaside on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Visitors were conveyed from Palmerston and elsewhere in motor cars and other vehicles of all sizes, each carrying the full limit. The main road between Foxton and Palmerston on the holidays was very dusty with the continuous stream of traffic, and now shows the weal’ of traffic.
The seaside presented a very animated appearance. The river foreshore and sea beach was lined with bathers, who appeared to enjoy the water and sun hath.. Man.v of the fair sex had to apply plentiful smearings of face cream after the exposure.
'flic dangerous spots at the seaside are marked, and we are pleased to report that there were no mishaps.
All tin* available boats were requisitioned, and some ventured over the liar for deep-sea fishing. Foxton presented a very deserted appearance on Christmas and Boxing Day.
The railway service was well patronised, and each train carried numerous excursionists.
The Palmerston races attracted a large number of local sports.
