is n possibility of Ministers exorcising undue influence with military service boards on the behalf of reservisls desiring exemption from service. The Acting-Prime Minister, just before Ids return to AVeliinglon, gave a direct denial to the suggestion, lie said, “.Not a soul can secure a certificate of exemption otherwise than from the Military Service Board, livery man must appear before the Board personally or send sufficient evidence to justify the Board in coming to a finding. Doubts may arise through the operation of Regulation No. 1), which allows the Minister to send a certificate to the Board to sav that

This question of essential industries is to be thrashed out with the boards at a conference.’’ Asked if it is necessary for a clergyman In apply for exemption, or will these applications be made by Hie heads of churches, Mr Allen replied I ha) the head of his church may send in notice of appeal, and appear for (he clergyman, but: he has an option, he may appear personally, or by his solicitor, or by his bishop.
