The folio wing communication has been issued to the military forces by General Sir Alfred Robin: — “The follow ing memorandum has been received by the Commandant from (he act ing- Prime Minister and Defence Minister:— “ ‘As the close of another year comes near I must write to thank you, the headquarters shift', and all (he staff throughout New Zealand, for (he loyal support given to me during these trying times. Everyone has unselfishly worked to the best of his ability to carry out the onerous duties, and I gratefully acknowledge this. I wish it were possible that you and every member of the staff could enjoy a, well-de-served holiday and rest, and know I lial yon-will do your best to provide lids. If some cannot have all they should, they will, 1 know, uncomplainingly accept the situation, and play the game. Please accept yourself and convey to the staff my good wishes during Christmas lime. “Yours sincerely, ‘(Signed) J. ALLEN.’

“In reference to the above I desire, on behalf of the military staff and personnel, to assure the Hon. Minister that the one and only thought, of all, is to continue to support him in his ever-increasing responsibilities as in the past until the war is well won and our gallant forces demobilise with honour.

“Let me also express my entire satisfaction on the general excellence of the work of the stall: during the year. Through constant, strenuous work' at all hours of the day or night, the cordial relations between all branches have made l a heavy task practically a pleasant one.
