ENTERTAINMENTS.

“OUR. PICTURES.” The programme submitted at the Town Hall last night proved to In 1 of a very entertaining nature, and contained a varied and interesting number of subjects. The star item, a Hepworlh feature, with I hairy Ainley in (be lead, and also featuring Alma Taylor as “Iris,” was a 'film that appealed to the popular taste. The story is ot. a, good, noble, and intensely lovable woman, whose utler downfall is brought about by a succession ot terrible and cruel circumstances, from whose cumulative effect, upon such a nature as tiers, (here can be no escape. She is essentially a “lady" in the best ami truest sense of Ihe word. Nutured in luxury and inherently weak, it is impossible I bat she should do otherwise (ban she does, given the cruel circumstances. That is (lie terrible tragedy and pathos of it. The photography and scenic effects arc very good. The supporting items include a beautifully coloured and very interesting Pathe subject, “Some Birds of Foreign Lauds,” which drew forth much favourable comment from the audience. “The remaining items were the ever popular Gaumout Graphic, and another instalment of (he clever cartoons, entitled 1 “Mutt and Jeff on an Outpost.” The programme as a whole was distinctly good, and will be repeated to-night.

SATURDAY (One Night Only). ‘■BARRIER OF PREJUDICE.” Safurdny’s change of programme will living an entertainment of; a very strong- nature, including ;is it does several items of unusual merit. The first <m (he Jisl is “Barrier of Prejudice/’ the story of which is as follows; Gerald, only son of Mrs i (owe, an aris(oeral ie and wealthy woman, falls in love with, and despite opposition, marries Meg, adopted daughter of Anne, a poor (isherwoman. .Mrs Howe selfishly tries every way to separate her son from Meg. At lirst she fails, hut, aided hy money, friends, and by playing upon his ]>arental love immediately after an unfortunate, (piarrel between the young people, Mrs Howe finally succeeds in weaning her son away from his young bride* and securing his consent; to get a divorce from her. Gerald’s mother keeps from him the fact that Meg Ims given birth to a child, and divorce proceedings are well tinder way before Anne arrives at the Howe mansion to plead with Gerald to return to his wife and child. On leaving the whole story from the woman’s lips, Gerald begins to understand matters belter, his feelings undergo a change, and he turns against his mother in favour of Meg. He leaves Mrs Howe a broken woman, and is soon in his wife’s ■•inns. In (In* end the baby reunites them all in pence and forgiveness. Another Him of great interest is “'flu* Woman in the Box," a story of the United Slates Secret Service, and a him containing many thrilling incidents. Supporting the foregoing is a really laughable Charlie Chaplin comedy, “Charlie’s Busy Day,” of which we need only say Hint Charlie is as good as ever in this turn. The remainder of the programme is of a varied nature, and will be found of excellent quality.
