PELTED WITH EGGS. TWELVE Yol'NG .MEN CHARGED As a result of the forcible presentation of highly llavoured eggs to .Miss Adela Pankhnrst and Mr W. .). Sel l on, oi’ Ynoarang, near .Melbourne, on October 7th, twelve residents of Kalamalilo were charged before the Col tram Court, with behaving in an offensive way. They were discharged with a caution on promising to make a contribution to the funds of the Bed Cross Society. Defendants’ solicitor said li is elirmts had pleaded not guilty in order to gel the facts staled in court. They"now asked for (he plea to lie withdrawn, and a plea of guilty substituted. These young men were incensed at Miss Punkhurst's disloyal views (hat they determined to teach her a lesion. The general opinion in Katamatite was that she and her chairman got what they deserved. Constable Eowles staled that on October 7th Miss Adela Pankhnrst end the chairman of her meeting, Mr Sefton, were going to Yon a rang 1 , from Katamatite, when they were pelted with eggs. Prior to this Aliss Pankhnrst and Mr Sefton had gone into the post office, and during their absence the buggy seal had been liberally besmeared with eggs. Aliss Pankhnrst, and .Mr Sefton returned to Katamatite and gave information to the police. Defendants had all made statements admitting they had thrown eggs. He did not hear Aliss Pankhnrst at a meeting advising young men not to take the oath to serve their country, but; she told them that the proclamation was illegal. He knew Air Sefton had four sous of military age, and had heard it stated that he. (Sefton) said sooner than let them light against the Germans he would see them shut. Sub-Inspector Crooks said he was not out for scraps, and desired to give the young men a chance.
