SPRING SHOW.

The local Horticultural Society’s Spring' Show, held on Thursday and Friday iasl, was a groat success from every jioint of view. The eniries on (lie whole constituted a record, although a number of classes were in if lilled. The sweet pea class was one of the show attractions, and some beautiful blooms were exhibited. Special honours in this (dass went to Airs Kenton. The rose class was also very line, and included exhibits by Mr I' 1 . Penn and .Mr H. Witched, of Otaki. The locallygrown blooms included some very tine specimen!' grown by Mis (). Nye, Mrs Gallant), Mr Pearson, and others. The pot plants section was nor well tilled, although there were some line specimens, Miss Kpeirs taking the honours. In cnt. blooms Miss 0. Xyc secured the points prize, in the fruit section the classes were not weM’represented, Air Nye winning the points prize, and also a similar honour in lhe vegetable (dass. Some fine exhibits in vegetables were displayed by the Slate School, which also gained Ihe special prize for collection of potatoes. Tim cookery class brought out some good onIries, an d Airs Han! on’s exhibits gained the (joints prize, while Airs John Robinson, Airs Gallant! and Miss AVoodroufe secured special prizes. Airs 0. Rand won the points prize in the home industries (dass. hi fancy work the points prize was won by Aliss Rena Barber. Tim decorative class brought, a good number of entries, the points prize, going to Aliss Estella Edlin. The school work reflected great credit upon the pupils of the local Slate school. The show was well patronised at ail sessions by the public. The Borough. Baud and Air Belly’s orchestra helped to enliven the proceedings. A children’s vocal competition was held on Thursday night. Airs Stephenson, of Shannon, ollieialed as judge. There were eleven competitors. Miss Madge Patterson secured first prize, Aliss Elva .Moore second, and S. Staff 3rd. The other competitors were: E. Robinson, B. Chalk, 1. Patterson, Aloana Littlejohn, T. Hussie, K. Robinson, X. Woods and C. Brifliu. The items were much appreciated by the audi-

once. The sheep-guessing competition was won by Mr Saps ford, who guessed the correct weight, viz., (17 lbs. Last night Mr A it ken contributed a vocal item, and Mr D. Kmnvstub a slop dance. The -Judges: Alt' Shailor (cut blooms, pot plants, roses, sweet peas, cottage and school gardens), Mr W. V. Kingsbeer (fruit and vegetables), Mr F. O. Smith (dairy produce, cookery, and home industries), Miss A. Mortcnson (fancy work), Mrs Prouse (decorative). The birds’ eggs collected totalled .1,122. Miss Woodroofe did record business in the sweets stall. The president, secretary and stewards deserve a special word of praise for the excellent way in which (he details were carried out. Air Holland auctioned all surplus exhibits at the close of (he show. The fall prize lisi appears on (he fourth page.
