THE BUTTER-FAT TAX

Wellington, .Nov. 28. Alembers of Parliament representing the dairying districts Availed on Cabinet Alinisters to-day to urge the abolition of the butter-fat tax of ;|d per lb. The Hon. James Allen presided, and Hons. AlacJDonald, Bussell, Myers and AicNab Avere also present. it Avas contended by the deputation that the tax pressed heavily and inequitably upon small dairy farmers. Alessrs Allen, Alacßonald, Alyers and Bussell replied. Air Alacßonald, as Alinister of Agriculture, quoted figures showing that the butter producers had been getting considerably more than pre-war rates, and said that, after paying the tax they Avere receiving 5d per lb. more under present conditions. Until Parliament avus in session he could not see how aiiy great alteration could be made in the matter.
