PALMERSTON HIGH SCHOOL.
PARENTS' DAY. Yesterday was ‘‘parents’ day* 5 at (he Palmerston High School, and parents from all pails of the district were present, and were afforded an opportunity of; seeing the scholars at. work in their various class-rooms and at play. The school, equipment and envh’onmcnl is worthy of such an importnut centre. The architectural appearance is very imposing, and the class-rooms are well lighted and ventilated. The science and lecture rooms are up-to-date in every respect. Samples of the work done by the pupils were displayed, and created a good deal of interest. The rector and staff were at hand to afford any information to parents upon any phase of school life. The “girls” dispensed afternoon Pm, and courteously entertained the visitors. Opportunity was afforded those present of seeing the school at play and engaging in physical exercises. Physical drill by the boys in the spacious play ground was a, line exhibition on the whole. The marching', however, was somewhat straggling, while the deportment amt hearing of a number of the boys was not at all up to military standard. Exhibitions of swimming and diving in the line baths connected with the school created keen interest. Palmerston and district is to be congratulated upon possessing such a line secondary school, and we are pleased to state that the work of the pupils compares favourably with any other similar institution in the Dominion.
