PALMERSTON OASES. Palmerston N., Nov. 22. The Military Service Appeal Board sat at Palmerston N. today. •John James and Stephen Williamson, two brothers, farmer's, at Waituna Best, applied for exemption on the grounds; (1) That their service would be contrary to the public interest because of their occupation; and (2) undue hardship because of the ditlieulty of obtaining expert and other labour for their large farm of 1,400 acres. Stephen Williamson, senr., father of tin* appellants, said he could not do active farm work. One of the sons had charge of the stock and the other of the cropping. Besides the sous there were employed a resident ploughman, a casual hand, and a, bov. The place could do with eight men. The sons worked all the tiling tin tiie farm. The Government valuation of ilie property was £20,000. The sons gave evidence that they were constantly engaged on the farm, and reckoned they were doing their duty better on the farm than by going to the front. The Hoard dismissed the appeal of Stephen Williamson, and reserved its decision concerning John ‘Williamson for live months, providing he remained in his present occupation during that time.
