THE CENSUS.
Census returns continue to trickle in from various parts of the Dominion. Nowhere arc there any very striking increases in the population, and in some cases decreases are reported, notably at Waihi, where the population has dropped to 4,784, a, shrinkage of 1,(>52 in five years.
Feilding’s population is 3,138, an increase of 128. Taihape shows a substantial gain of 48!), bringing its population to 1,027, while Marlon’s increase of 212 makes the present total 1,650.
Greater Auckland continues to liourish, although the increases in nearly all cases arc less than for the previous live-year period. Among the suburban boroughs, .Ml. Albert shows an increase of 2,040, the new iignres being 0,640. Takapuna has almost doubled, and now lias a population of 2.7;j6. Epsom, too, has hounded forward, its aggregate of 3,033 representing an increase of 1,234 in live years. Other suburbs (increases in parentheses) areßirkenhead 2,1.34 (431), Devimport 7,865 (824), Onchunga 5,061 (1,205), Newmarket 2,841 (til), Northeote 1,651 (l-Hf), Otahuhu 2,328 (481), Avondale 2,404 (361), Boint Chevalier 2.601 (760), Alt. Wellington 76-1 (3-15). The population of I lie borough of Whangarei is 3,20-1, an increase of 636, while the county shows a decrease of 4-13. Rotorua's lignres, 2,8-15, represent, an Increase of 445. Te Kuiti has increased by 7.16 to 1,082, and Te Awanmlu by 38!) to
1,064. Cambridge's 4,507 only means an increase of 44. Masterton County census returns show a total population of 3,746, against 4,626 in 1011. Casllepoiut County shows an increase of one, 621 against 626 in 1011. Alanrieoville County has fallen from (150 to 784. The Maslertim suburb of Ransdown has a population of 018. Carterton's population is 16.14, as against 1,546 live years ago. Grey-

In 1011 the total was 3,540. A special red urn liled in !he office of (he Census Enumerator for (he Wellington District gives the population of Blinunerton in dune as 150 and in January (die seaside season) as 1,200.
