VOLUNTARY AND COMPULSORY.
TUB Acting-Premier, as Chairman of the Recruiting Board, advises us (hat Cabinet hits decided to continue both (he Voluntary and the Compulsory system in making up future reinforcements. To (his end, it will be open for volunteers to enlist for each reinforcement up to a certain dale, (hen whatever shortage there may be will come from a ballot of micii in (he First Division for Compulsory Service, based on the district quotas already announced. Thus, voluntary enlistment for the 2-1 (h draft is to cease on November lllh, and a ballot of compulsionisls is to be taken in the ensuing week to make good any shortage in t hi- reinforcements then existing. This means lhat recruiting for the 2-llh reinforcement will close a month before the draft goes into camp, so as to allow lime for a ballot to be taken and appeals to be lodged and heard, and the full strength of the reinforcement completed before mobilisation. Voluntary enlistments will then be accepted for the 2f)lh and 201 It reinforcements until December ‘Jlh, when voluntary enlistment for (he 2;jlh reinforcement will (-ease, and a ballot will be taken to make good any shortages.
