FATE OF CARLSRUHE.
GFJIMAN OFFICFK’S STORY, Captain Ansi, second officer of the German cruiser Karlsruhe, lias published a book, entitled “The War Adventures of the Cruiser Karlsruhe,’’ which gives details of (ho sinking of the ship.
'flu* author says that what actually happened was (lm( on November -llh, 191 I, the. Karlsruhe was lying in 10.7 degrees north and 55.25 degrees west when she was struck by a torpedo from some invisible era(f, probably a submarine. The ship broke in two and sank immediately, wilh many of the crew and the commander.
The Karlsruhe was accompanied in her adventures by two steamers, the Indriaui and the Hio Negro, which acted as colliers. These rescued many of her crew. Subsequently the Indriaui managed to reach Norway after great difficulties, and on December 4t!i Captain Ausl reached Germany. The Kio Negro reached a, German harbour some time later. The British Admiralty on March 20th, 19J5, stated; —>ffh t .)»e is every reason to believe (hat the Karlsruhe was sunk in the neighbourhood of the West Indies at the beginning of November, and that those of the crew who were rescued reached Germany early in December in the steamship Bio Grande, which had been acting in concert with the Karlsruhe.”
