EMPLOYMENT AFTER WAR.
The British Local Govonnneiu Board lias under consideration ipiestions likely to arise in connwlion with tlit* demand for capital and the distribution of labour and employment at the close of the war. Air Long has in contemplation the establishment of a register o f work available and likely to be undertaken at the conclusion of the war. He lias asked local an)horilies to make a forecast of the future in their districts at the end of the war, being probably able to say with some degree of accuracy what works they will be able or obliged to undertake. .Many of an urgent character have only been postponed at the express desire of the (lovernment. As regards private enterprise, Mr Long recognises that information obtainable cannot hi* regarded as absolutely reliable in all circumstances. The, inclusion of particular works in the register will not bind the undertakers to proceed with them, but it is hoped to secure a general idea of the character and extent of the works which may be undertaken and the capital and labour which they would absorb.
