MISSIONARY WORK IN CHINA.
Miss E. M.. Leslie, who for many years was actively connected with missionary work in China on behalf of the New Zealand Church Missionary Society (Anglican), addressed a series of meetings in All Saints' Schoolroom last week-end. On Saturday afternoon she delivered a very interesting address outlining the Society's operations among the women of China. After the lecture, curios were handed round, and voluntary contributions solicited, and a fairly liberal response was made. On Sunday afternoon a large number of children listened very attentively to the speaker's remarks concerning the Chinese children. The meetings were concluded last night, when Miss Leslie addressed a public meeting. It is (o he regretted that so few availed themselves of the opportunity of hearing one with iii'.-l-hand knowledge of a wonderful race. In her remarks she deal; with the customs and religious beliefs of the people, and illustrated her remarks by several curios. As a result of her visit, it wa.s decided to maintain a scholar in (he school over which Miss Leslie had charge. We may say that as a result of her work in China, Miss Leslie’s health has completely broken down, and that she, most nobly has made herself responsible for the maintenance of her successor.
