THE HEMP INDUSTRY.
QUESTION OF TONNAGE. .MILLERS INTERVIEW MINISTER. A deputation representing the FJaxmillers’ Association — .Messrs Ross, Greig. and Mabin—waited upon the Hon. W. 0. S. MacDonald (Minister for Agriculture and Industries) last night, with regard to the securing of shipping space for the coming season’s llax. The deputation, which was introduced by Mr W. H. Field., M.P. for Otaki, pointed out that there was already a considerable quantity of llax awaiting shipment, and that, more would he coming forward as the season advanced. They wished, therefore, to make sure that they would be able to get their (lax shipped, more especially during the mouths December to March, when the wool season would lie on and they would have considerable difficulty in getting tonnage. A deputation had waited on the Prime Minister some two months ago and lie had stated that lie might have five or six ships available, hut tiie vessels had not materialised yet, and they wore anxious to know what space they coiiid rely upon getting. The Minister stated that during the present week lie proposed to look thoroughly into the question of tonnage (hat would he likely to he available for the ensuing season. He would cable to the. Prime .Minister in regard to the matter, mid would lot them know as soon as possible what tonnage could lie secured.
