CONSCRIPTION.
GETTING HEADY FOR BALLOT. Wellington, September 30. Mr Fraser, the Government Statistician, estimates the number of: men who should be on the roll of the Expeditionary Force Reserve at 200,(10(1, whereof 183,(ISO have already applied for enrolment. The balance will probably include a largo number already in camp. Steps will be taken to trace defaulters and bring them to hook. At present Mr Frasei 1 is concentrating his energies on getting everything in readiness to hold early a ballot if necessary at the end of the present month to (ill shortages m the 21st and 22nd Reinforcements. The rolls lor the recruiting districts wore gazetted last week, and are being prepared, but it will be possible (o take the ballot if required without waiting the completion of these rolls.
