THE TARGET RESERVE.
. (To the Editor.) Sir. —As a comparative newcomer to Foxton, I was surprised to read in your paper that Eoxton was possessed of such a large area of land for reserve purposes, and still further surprised to learn that nothing has been done to beautify and improve it for the benefit and pleasure of those who are to come after us. Judging by the growth of trees one sees about the place, (here should not be any difficulty in transforming the large reserve in a few years into a park and pleasure ground where visitors and local people could spend a pleasant hour. It should help in a material way to attract people on pleasure bent to Eoxton. If the Borough Council cannot undertake the work, why not appoint a domain or reserve Board of Trustees to look after the property and spend the revenue in beautifying it? This is done in other towns, and works well. I think it would be very unwise of the Council to lease the reserve for a longer period than that stated in the Act. I hope, however, that something will be done to improve the property, otherwise we are failing in our duty to the town and to posterity.—l am,etc., RESIDENT.
