WAR PENSIONS.
APPROACHING £200,000 ANNUALLY. The following is the summary of war pensions to dale: — Soldiers. —745 pensions, 2,107 allowances, 278 elee-lineel, 17 aeljonrned, 38 in hand; total, 3,192. Depenelents. —1,028 pensions, 108 allowances, 102 declined, 8 adjourned; gross total 4,485 claims dealt with.
From the financial point, of view the position is as under: — Soldiers. —754 pensions, of the annual value of £40,985, an average of £54 pei - pension. Wives: 221 pensions (with 342 children), £21,527 per annum, an average of £97 per annum; other dependents 807, annual value £23,923, average £29. Total, 1,782 pensions, annual value £80,435. ' In addition there are 2,215 allowances being paid at the annual rate of £108,406. This brings the total number of people drawing pensions up to 3,997 ? and the annual value is £194,841 —an pvcrage pension of £4B.
