TERRITORIALS’ OBLIGATIONS.
Can a member oi! the Territorials unlit for active or home service be compelled to attend Territorials’ drill ’ The question arose in the Palmerston S.M. Court yesterday, when P. Hadden was charged with failure to attend drill. Defendant stated that all his brothers had enlisted, but he himself had been rejected. r The Magistrate (Mr J. W • Poynton) enquired of the officers if it was not absurd that a man unlit for hom,e service should attend drill"! They might as well compel a cripple to attend. The reply was that defendant had passed the medical test for the Territorial forces. The fact that he had ; been turned down for active service did not affect his Territorial obligation. Defendant was convicted and discharged.
