BULB SHOW.
A RECORD EXHIBITION The annual Bulb Show held under the auspices of the local Horticultural Society was opened in the Town Hall on Tuesday afternoon by the Mayor (Air Alf. Eraser), who congratulatecl-the Society and exhibitors upon the magnificent display of blooms. He made reference to the educational value of the Society, which was entitled to the wholehearted support of (he community. The show this year outclassed all pi’evious Bulb Shows, in entries, quality of blooms and general display of exhibits. The attendance, of the public, too, showed a marked improvement. The success of the show this year was in a large measure due to the splendid enthusiasm of the president, Air P. 6. Jackson, who worked like a Trojan throughout. He was ably assisted by the secretary (Air Patterson) and committee. The arrangements left no room for complaints on the part of exhibitors, and all the sections were staged to the best advantage. Air Anstiss (Palmerston N.) was the judge of the blooms and pot plants, Airs Hume (Palmerston N)' of the decorative and cookery, and Air Shailer (Palmerston N) of the fruit and vegetables. The judging on the whole was very satisfactory. In one or two sections blooms were not properly classified, hut this will he obviated in future, as it is proposed, to have name cards placed in each section. The stewards carried out their work with efficiency. Considerable interest was manifested in the Citizen’s Trophy, which this year was won by Airs P. G. Jackson. The winners so far have been Airs Galland (1913), Air Rockel (1914), Airs Galland (1915). The trophy has to be won three times before it becomes the property of the winner. ►Some magnificent specimens of bulbs were exhibited, and‘(ho judge was set a difficult task to separate the winners. The cut blooms were also a revelation, and showed what Foxton soil can produce in this connection. The decorative classes were highly commented upon by the judge and public. There was a large entry in the children’s cookery class, and some good exhibits were on view. The fruit and vegetable class was represented by a few exhibits of good ipialit-y.
