LAST NIGHT’S STORM.
DAMAGE AT THE HEADS. JETTY PRACTICALLY DESTROYED. Last night’s storm was the severest experienced for very many years at the Alanawatu Heads, and considerable damage has been done there.
The jetty, which was erected a. few years ago by the Harbour, Board, and towards the cost, of which section holders contributed, got the full force of the storm, and about fit) feel of it has practically collapsed, and the remainder has been considerably damaged.
Particularly heavy seas were experienced, and the water was up to the front of the cottages along the beach. Two I aunelies broke (heir moor-, ings and have been washed away, and a number of boats were blown bottom upwards. Only the main beacon has been left standing, and considerable damage has been done in other directions.
