.JURY DISAGREES

Wanganui, August 31. As a sequel to the death of a young woman at the Wanganui Hospital, Richard Patrick Pollard, formerly recruiting officer for the Defence Forces at Haw era, was charged at the Supreme Court today, before Air Justice Edwards, with the illegal use of an instrument with intent to procure a miscarriage. The prosecution relied on deceased’s deposition, which stated that an operation was performed hy a strange man in a bedroom at the Dominion Hotel in Hawera, usually occupied by another Defence officer, and a companion of accused. The defence was that the accused \yas no party to the operation. The jury disagreed, and a fresh trial was ordered.
