FOXTON TRAIN SERVICE.

PLTILIC MEFTLXC SPfIHKSTS ALTERATIONS,

.V public meeting was held in the Council Chamber yc.-ucrdaw afternoon to discuss the existing railway time-table, and to make recommendations for an improvement in tho service. The .Mayor (.Mr Alt. Fraser) presided. He said that as far as Fox ton was concerned the present time-table wasfPertainly not ail that could be desired. Tlie suggested alterations that the Foxton public were absolutely unanimous about were the discontinuance of the early .Monday morning train during the winter months at least, and the running of the afternoon train to connect with the Auckland express at Palmerston Xorth; also the evening train from Palmerston Xorth to leave so as to arrive in Foxlon at (i.do o'clock. Cr Freeman said that Palmerston people objected to altering the early Monday morning train, as it, would mean the discontinuance of the nine o'clock train from Palmerston. which they claimed was largely used by commercial travellers and others doing business in Foxlon. and by farmers, auctioneers. etc., for . the Himalangi and Rangiotu sales. He suggested that the train should leave' Foxton at S o'clock, and on Mondays leave Palm pi’s ton again at 10 o’clock for Foxton, which would suit the sale people, also the travellers, although he contended that the train at present was used very little by travellers.

.Mr (Irani tManawatu Heads) said that during the winter mouths there wore no passengers from the beaeh on Monday mornings. Eight o'clock would suit the residents there very well.

The following resolution was proposed by .Mr Freeman and unanimously agreed to: That this public meeting of residents of Foxton and Manawatu Heads respectfully urge that the existing train service' be amended as follows: The S.-I5 a.in. train be altered to leave Foxton at. S a.in, daily, and on Mondays to return from Palmerston North at 10 a.in., in time to reach Himatangi for slock sale at noon; the daily 3 ji.m. train to leave Foxton at 2.20 pan., and reach Palmerston North at 4 pan., in lime to connect with the Auckland express leaving Palmerston North at 4.25 pan.; the daily a..'ts pan. train from Palmerston North to Foxton to leave Palmerston North at 4.45 pan., and reach Foxton at 0.30 pan.
