PRESENTATION.

After the general and local business had been disposed of at the animal congregational meeting of the local Presbyterian Church last night, a pleasing ceremony look place to mark the congregation’s appreciation of the services of the organist. Mis H. J. Claris. The minister. Rev. J. H. Brediu, in asking Mrs Claris to accept on behalf of tin* congregation a solid silver

tea set. as a mark of appreciation of her devoted .-ervices, said he had heard of Mrs Claris’ devoted service to the church before coming to I'oxton. The congregation had felt for some rime past that something should be done to mark their appreciation of her good work, but there had been so many calls upon them that the matter was allowed to stand over for a time. The man-

agers had deputed two ladies to roiiv.iss ihe congregation for funds, and they had mot with a very liberal and hearty response. .Mrs Claris' services were given voluntarily. and during his ministry she had not been absent from service or choir practice. Her loyally was worthy not only of recognition, but •was an example to all. The congregation were deeply indebted to Mrs Claris and were to be congratulated upon having the services of such a talented organist. Mrs Claris must not think that there was any attempt on the part of the coitgrogaion to pay her for her services, but to look upon the gift as a mark of their appreciation. In handing her the gift, ho conveyed his own ami the congregation’s good wishes and hearty thanks. Mrs Claris feelingly acknowledged the kind thoughts expressed by the minister on behalf of the congregation which had prompted the recognition of her services. In doing what she had done she felt that she had only been discharging a common duty to the church. Her remarks were received with an outburst of applause. The plate is to be suitably inscribed. The handsome present; was greatly admired by all present.
