TEN SHILLING NOTES
ISSUE DURING TUTS WEEK,
Supplies of ten shilling banknotes have been distributed to the branches of the various hanks of issue in the Dominion. The notes will he jilaeed in circulation within a few davs.
Authority to add banknotes of this denomination was given by Parliament 'in the Finance Act, which was recently adopted by the Legislature. • The design adopted by the Bank of New Zealand is much simpler (ban that of any of (he notes already in circulation. Smaller Ilian the £J note, the new note is jirinfed on junk (laper, water-marked “Bank" of New Zealand,” and has none of (he pictorial decorations which distinguishes the existing pajier currency. Neither the shaded background nor (he re[telilion of the denomination appear in the new note. The hack of the note is jilain. The principal reason for the issue of ten shilling banknotes is the discontinuance of the supplies of half-sovereigns from the Australian mints, owing, it, has been stated, to the difflenlly of x-ejxlaeing worn dies.
