The Shannon llax lire case was continued at the Supreme Court, Palmerston North, on Tuesday afternoon, when evidence was given by C. P. O’Began, W. Williams, 11. Dunn, and T. McAnerquy
Yesterday further evidence was given by Messrs Litehlield, Norman Edgar, Axel Jensen, Coldlinch, Elbert Judd, and Dalzell. Evidence was also given as to values by Messrs Ecotl, of Eoxton, A. J. Toogood, Eealherston, and W. Wakely. also of EeTitherslon. Tlic evidence of these witnesses went: to show t he value of the land and the'quantity of flax destroyed. The amount of flax was put at 14 tons per acre. P. F. Wall, the defendant, was examined, his evidence being of the nature of going to show that proper precautions were taken to burn the bush on his land so as to prevent it spreading, also that due notice was given the neighbours of the intended burn. Counsels’ addresses will be taken to-day, and it is anticipated that the Judge will sum up to-morrow.
