MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
NOT TO BE POSTPONED. The clause in (lie War Regulations Bill providing lor 1 lie postponement of next year’s elections of Mayors ami members of local bodies, met with short shrift when it eamc befor’e the House on Saturday nis'h I. Several members spoke in opposition to it, and an amendment suggested by Mr MeCallnm to the effect that the postponement should be optional with the local bodies did not meet with any favour. The Prime Minister stated that the proposal was not a policy matter, and that he was quite prepared to allow the House to decide the question. He suggested that they should decide the question on the voices without any further discussion. This was done, and on the clause being put there was such a shout of noes, quite drowning the ayes, that there was no doubt as to (he opinion of the .House, The (danse was accordingly struck out.
