That this Conference urges Parliament to pass legislation to prohibit shouting, and provide for the (dosing of liquor bars between the hours of (i p.m. and 8 a.m. until the (dose of the war, and for at: least six mouths afterwards.
'Phis remit was moved by Mr G. W. Leadley at the Farmers’ Conference on Wednesday. He said that never was (here such a time when the human machine should be kept at a high state of efficiency. Mr John M’Quecn (Southland) seconded the remit, and said the nation should stretch a point at this stage. H was difficult to see how the proposal was an insult to the soldiers, as suggested by the militarv authorities.
Mr AV. J. Birch (Marion) said he was not a prohibitionist, but he supported the motion. If early (dosing was not brought into effect there would be a bigger vote than ever for prohibition when the matter was next put before the electors. Air d. Boddie (Auckland) supported the remit on the grounds of elficiencv and economv.
Mr G. Sheat (North Canterbury) said it was to the lasting credit of many people who were not prohibitionists that they favoured the proposal. The remit was adopted, only one dissentient voice being recorded.
It was decided to communicate the motion to the Premier immediate! v.
