MILITARY SERVICE BILL.
GOVERNOR APPEALED TO,
The following letter was addressed to His Excellensy the Governor, by Mr J. M’Combs, ALP.: — “My Lord, —It is my desire to present to you a petition against the Military Service Bill becoming law, on the grounds to be set forth in the petition. 1 therefore respectfully ask you to postpone Lite signification of your assent tor a lew days, to enable me to put those grounds in proper form grounds which well set forth my opinion as to the constitutional nature of the Bill or otherwise. 1 understand that the Military Service Bill has this day passed its final stages in the Legislative Council.

IQS EXCELLENCY’S REPLY,
Mr Al’Combs has received the following reply, dated 2(illi July: "Dear Sir, —i duly received your letter of this day's date, and have referred the matter to my Constitutional Advisers. In reply, i desire to inform you that, provided petition reaches me within the next day or two, 1 am prepared to postpone affixing my signature to the Military Service Bill, but 1 wish to point out that 1 should not feel justified in taking any action in this matter which would be contrary to tire advice of my Alinisters. “Yours faithfully (Signed) Liverpool, Governor.”
