EARLY CLOSING.
WILL THERE BE A COMPROMISE?' Negotiations between the two parlies in the House of Representatives concerned in the proposals for the earlier closing of hotels during the war period have not yet reached any degree of finality, says the Wellinglon Post. It is understood that the temperance party first proposed an alteration of the present hours to 8 a.in. to 8 p.m. (after the 0 o’clock proposal had been found to he impossible), and (he representatives ot (ho other side offered,a compromise 9 a.m. (o 9 p.m., possibly with a view to further action at the next general election. Both sides have “pricked (he card” with a view to discovering how the voting may go when the War Regulations Bill comes before the House in Committee, lint so far the result is indefinite. It is suggested in some quarters that the debate will disclose a strong agitation in favour of the nationalisation of the liquor trade.
