Almost every year there is an outbreak locally, and while wc do not desire lo scan' the community, we urge parents and school teachers to keep a careful wnich on children complaining oi‘ sore throats and colds. Jn such cases the throat should he examined and it; there he any signs of white spots, a medical man should he immediately summoned. The great trouble with infected children, as is pointed out by a medical man to a contemporary, is that the affected one might he allowed to run about with other children, drink out of the same cups as other persons, kiss and he kissed, infected children should lie immediately isolated. The indications nre red, dry throat, and n feeling of general ill-healih, high temperature (HU- —105 degrees), yellow spots arise usually on the tonsils, if the matter is allowed to go too long before attention, suffocation might ensue and the next danger to that is heart failure from the eifecls of the poison in the system. There is also a risk of fatal injury to the nervous system. Diphtheric eases are also liable to contract measles and scarlet fever, and conversely scarlet fever patients are liable to lake diphtheria. Jf parents tire watchful and seek medical aid without delay where suspicion rests, (here is little to fear.
