There’s nothing spoils a mortal's life like 1 living Avith a nagging Avife. The husband who is daily stung and badgered by envenomed tongue, can only bear his load of grief, and long for death as a, relief. “Why doesn’t that poor skate arise,” Unsympathetic Neighbour cries, “and put, his foot doAvn good and flat, and let. his wife know where l he's at? For evexy husband safe and sane will see he’s boss in his domain.” But what can a poor pilgrim do, if he is married to a shrew? If he rears up to speak a piece, the Avife will quickly make him cease, for she can yell three limes as loud, and has (he hacking of the eroAvd. And if he gathers up a chair, and Avith it combs the lady’s hair, of public wrath there’ll be a storm —lie is a Head in human form. And if, Avoru out, lie pulls his freight, the constables will search flu 1 Stall 1 , and drag him to his home again, Avhere he’ll he sentenced to the pen. Of all positions dire, accursed, (lie henpecked husband’s is the Avorsf.
