THAT CELEBRATION AT GORE.
Mr \V. 11. Field (Olaki) asked tin* Minister in Charge of the Police Department “(1) Whether his attention had been called to the following Press Association telegram from Gore, published in the newspapers on .June, (itlt : ‘Men of German birtli. —Celebrate at Gore. —A number of local young men of German birth celebrated the Germans’ part in the naval battle on Saturday and yesterday by getting intoxicated and marching through the town. Yesterday afternoon, in the main thoroughfare, they exploded two rockets. So far they have not been interfered-with.’ (2) Whether he will make inquiries into the correctness or otherwise of the statements made ; and if found to be correct, whether he will effectually restrain these gentry from similarly and publicly disporting themselves in future.” In reply, the Hon. A. L. Ilerdman slated that he iiad seen the telegram referred to. There was no truth in the statement that the young men inarched through the town. 'l'he men would he charged with discharging (ireworks in a public place, and if further action was considered necessary it would be taken.
