THE PERILS AT HOME.
We have received, by the latest mail, the following verses from a Foxton boy serving somewhere in France ; Often in my ti-cnch I think Of the poor chaps left at home: Of the perils that surround them Wherever they may roam. The train and tram collisions. The juggernaut motor 'bus, Bacilli in the cows’ milk. And Zeppelins (which are wuss). How awful it must be at nights • To lie in a feather bed, Or find for breakfast when yon rise There's butler on your bread. With all those shocking worries A man’s life must be sad. And to think that 1 am missing them Makes me exceeding glad. Now, out here things are different, And life is fancy free ; We have no butter on our bread Nor cows’ milk in our tea. There are no tram collisions, Or feather beds at. night. And “Zepps.” they never trouble us, But keel) well out of sight. All we have to worry us Are bullets, bombs and shells, Bully-beef and biscuits, And nasty, horrid smells. To the chaps in New Zealand 1 send my sympathy, And ask them for their safety To come out here with me.
