MUNICIPAL GAS WORKS.

MONTHLY REPORT

The gas manager reported at last night's Council meeting that there was a steady increase* in the output of gas. For the mouth of May as per consumers' meters, there was an increase of 84,000 feet, equal to 13 per cent, on the sales for , the corresponding month of last year. We are now able to note how the gas sold at the revised cooking rale affects the quantity sold for lighting in the winter months. Although we have some 14 more consumers, the gas sold at the lighting rate shows a decrease of some 9,000 ieet, and 91,000 feet increase for cooking purposes, as compared with the same month last year. One cooker has been fixed, twelve services laid, and fittings installed in eight dwellings. There is still a number of installations on order. The street lamps require attention. The clockControllers have got so out of order that it seems only guesswork to know when a light will be on or oil. The lamplighter has been working out of town, and quite a number of lights have been consuming gas all night, while others have not; been alight. I would suggest that a tradesman he employed to effect necessary repairs and attend to all tops and controls.

Twenty-four tons of coal have been received during the month. Gas in holder on May Ist, 3,000 feet. ; gas manufactured, per meter, 408000 feet ; total, 471,000 feel.
