STRAYING STOCK NUISANCE.
OWNERS TO BE PROSECUTED.
Al last night’s Borough Council meeting, when the ranger’s report was being discussed, Cr Coley said stock was to he seen grazing on the borough roads night and day. He had personally protested to the ranger. Straying stock was a menace to motorists and pedestrians at night. Some owners had no paddocks for grazing and turned their horses out after !) o’clock at night to feed on the streets. Some horses were too weak to get out of people’s way, but they had enough strength to kick if people walked into them. He mentioned a horse that was a nuisance in Norbiton road, the ranger said he could not get the horse to the pound. The owner should he summoned. That was the only way to deal with the nuisance. Or Henderson said stock could he seen grazing on the streets day and night, and drastic steps should be taken to stop the nuisance. Cr Whihley said the Council should instruct its ranger to proceed against owners, as was done in Shannon and elsewhere. The roads would then lie kept (dear. ..Money was spent to clean out the drains, and straying slock nullified I lie work. It was pointed out that the ranger had resigned the position of lamplighter in order to give more attention to ranging. The ranger is to be instructed to take legal proceedings against owners of straying stock.
