FOXTON’S NEW TOWN CLERK.

Says the Ohinemnri Bazette “At Ihe (dose of I lie proceedings of the Paeroa Borough Coumdl meeting last night, the Mayor read a communication from the town clerk —Mr Walter Waters —tendering his resignation, having accepted (he position of town clerk to the Foxton Borough Coumdl. The Mayor said he was very sorry indeed that the clerk had decided to leave, and spoke of him in the very highest terms. He had done his utmost for the good of the Council, and was always willing to afford individual members any information they required. Councillor Blacke said he was sorry to hear (he resignation read. He was sure the clerk had done his very best in the interest of the borough. His departure, however, was to his interest. In going away he would gain greater experience ; he was a young man yet, and had his own way to make in the world. Tie did his work well, and (here was nothing too much trouble to him. Any councillor could always receive his ready and willing advice, and he (Cr Blacke) regretted his leaving, and did not. think the Council could gel, another clerk like him for the same' money. Councillor Keilder spoke in the highest terms of the clerk, and regretted his leaving. Councillor Taylor said he followed in the line of the other councillors. He would have liked to have seen the (Jerk stop the term, but probably the Council could gel him back again some lime at .folMl a year. Tin* (Jerk replied that it was not so much fin* money he would be getting by leaving ; it was the experience. Foxton was an old borough, and the population was much larger than Paeroa. He appreciated the kind words said about him. and would have 1 liked to have given a month's notice. He himself regretted leaving, but it was as he said.
