Among the invalided soldiers expected back in New Zealand very shortly is Private Leonard McAllister, of Foxton.

Air IV. Waters, at present Town Clerk at Paeroa, has accepted the position of Town Clerk at Foxton, and will take up his duties here shortly.

Mr A. Hawke, postmaster, is now on his annual holiday,and is spending it in the Hawke’s Bay district. His place is being tilled by Mr Geo. Levy, relieving postmaster for the Wellington district. •

Mr Longley, one of the cadets at (he Foxton post office, has been transferred to Akaroa, and is succeeded by Mr Baughen, who has received promotion to the clerical branch of the service. •

Among those who have been awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal is Private Arthur W. torus, of the 2nd Leicestershire Regement, 24 years of age, and a son

of Mr and Mrs Irons, Bysonby House, Mount-a venue, Leicester, and brother of Mrs Large, of Foxton. The official announcement slttles that Private Irons was awarded the medal for “conspicuous gallantry in bringing up and distributing ammunition under heavy tire.” His work is referred to in a- letter written by a wounded soldier of (he same regiment, who says : “1 can tell you, from what I saw of him, I never saw a cooler chap in my life.. Of course, this ammunition carrying is it very dangerous job, you are till the while running to and fro from the firing line with ammunition. The way he came along with it was ‘come day go day’ sort of way, didn’t care which way (he wind blew, and the chaps quite cheered him.” Private Irons is at present in hospital suffering from rheumatism.
