ANTI-SHOUTING.
LEGISLATION TO BE INTRODUCED. Hastings, May 24, A deputation waited upon the Hon. R. McNab this afternoon, urging that legislation be introduced for the closing of hotel bars at (5 p.m. for the period of the war and six months thereafter. The views of the deputation were stated by several business men, who emphasised that it was not a deputation of abstainers or prohibitionists. Betitions were tabled containing the signatures of over 2,000 adult residents within the borough. Mr McNab, in replying, stated that, as a member of the Cabinet, he could not speak as an individual, but only with the united voice of the Cabinet. He stated that just before he left Wellington the Cabinet came to a delusion to introduce anti-“shouting” legislation. He was not free to slate whether the Cabinet had yet reached a delusion on the early closing ipiestion. Information bad been gathered from other countries, and the representations of the deputation would be clearly placed before his colleagues. He could only assure them that licensing legislation would be introduced this session.
