SHOUTING AND EARLY CLOSING.

THE agitation urging the Government to legislate to make “shouting” illegal and to provide for the closing of hotel bars at 6 p.m., is growing rapidly throughout the Dominion. This agitation is not only supported by Prohibitionists, but by hundreds of people who will proudly never support straight-out prohibition. “Shouting” is a curse social custom that hundreds to spend their hard-earned money unnecessarily, to the detriment of their homes and families. One drink is quite enough, but the man who has sufficient moral courage to have a drink on his own when he wants it, without being drawn into a round of “shouting” is looked upon as a “Jimmy Woodser” —if you know what that means. Anyhow, the “shouting” custom is rotten, and a deliberate financial waste. There is an outcry against the increased cost of living, and strange as it may seem, those who do a lot of howling on this score continue to spend considerably more than the increase on the cost of living by .sticking to the bud old custom of

“shouting." A in an, surely, can ha as highly esteemed I>.V his fellows for whal lie is, without pouring liquor down their throats. As to early closing, can any one fi’ive a sound reason why the lh|iior business slionld lie sorted out lor a special concession in this connec(ion over all other commercial concerns 1 We hope the Government will have the courage to deal with I his subject at this time in the same way as the Home Government and our brave allies have done, instead of pandering to a monopoly'which continues to degrade humanity.
